This weekend it felt like the third trimester came out of nowhere, rifled through my cupboards and sat on my couch in ratty sweatpants eating all my favourite snacks. Does that make sense? It's a metaphor for taking over my LIFE! Thursday I hit 30 weeks (big milestone in my head, kind of like arriving at the home stretch because after the 30s come the 40s, and if you even make it to the 40s you know you won't finish them), and every day since then I have been tired, uncomfortable, and having acid reflux while all my internal organs get pummelled. I think maybe the Truck has realized that there are two more months to grow and it has more or less maxed out the current living space available in my belleh. It's not very impressed with my ribs, I think because it keeps getting behind/underneath them and just... pushing. Or maybe I have it all wrong and the Truck is just scratching its back on my ribs like a bear scratches its back on a tree.
Either way, I have come to terms with the likely arrival of stretch marks in my near future, there's a roll of Tums in my pocket, and I am more and more excited to meet our baby one day. Our due date is only 66 days away, so however long this discomfort/closeness with the baby lasts, I know it won't be forever!

29 weeks today, which means 77 days until our due date! (Yes, the Truck could be born healthy any time between Jan. 17 and Feb. 21, but the internet is counting us down to Feb. 7 so we'll go with it :P)
Nimoy was almost in this picture, but he is a burner and ducked out at the last minute.

I am 28 weeks pregnant today, and it seems that I have lost all of my puking skills from first trimester (particularly seeing it coming and not making a mess).
Generally I've been feeling good - a healthy appetite, no nausea for months - so I missed the key signs that my body was NOT happy with my breakfast today. I did finally clue in that I shouldn't eat everything on my plate, that each bite I felt progressively grosser, and I kept sneezing (a really weird way that my body has coped with nausea while I'm pregnant). I took my dishes to the kitchen and felt a wave of nausea that I knew wouldn't end in a sneeze.
I more or less destroyed my kitchen and then my bathroom. Once all the yuckiness had passed I cleaned up and hopped online to share (it helps, really). Now I think I will take a little nap. Thanks for your support :)

I am 26 weeks along, and now that November is here I can start saying I'm 6 months pregnant! I'm not counting months every four weeks because then if I make it to my due date I'll get to 10, and who wants to be 10 months pregnant on their due date? Not me! November is an exciting month because Matt and I will finish our prenatal class, and since I am beginning the third trimester we'll have two midwife appointments instead of just one.
In our prenatal class last week we started talking about when the baby actually arrives - breastfeeding and bathing and not sleeping and generally letting your life get turned upside down because fighting it only makes it harder and it's not forever. I'm not wishing this pregnancy away by any means, but I am getting so excited for the Truck to be on the outside where it will be so much easier to tickle and squeeze its feet!

We had an ultrasound done this week to follow up on some things from the first ultrasound back in September. Nothing was really out of the ordinary, but there were a few things they wanted to monitor and make sure they stayed proper. One issue was a tiny cyst in the baby's brain, which is not uncommon or dangerous but they wanted to make sure that it "resolved" - aka went away on its own as normal. The other issue was that the size of the brain ventricles were at the high end of normal range, and they wanted to make sure they stayed in a healthy range or else there could have been risk for brain damage.

[Part III - Making a Baby]
Don't worry - there aren't too many details in this one! ;)
If you've been following along, you've read about my terrible experience on the Pill when I first got married and about the delight of discovering FAM. Let me emphasize how very great FAM was for us as a couple - we were not longer terrified of my horrific and senseless emotional crises, and we were communicating tons about whatever magic estrogen and progesterone were working in my body.

I have been wanting to write a post on Natural Family Planning (NFP) for some time now but always put it off. I think deep down a tiny part of me was terrified that Matt and I were unknowingly infertile and that writing a smarmy know-it-all post about why NFP rocks would come back to bite me when it turned out we weren't actually successfully timing anything around my fertility, we just couldn't make babies.
Happily (and miraculously! Goodness it's amazing), we have conceived a child, and although that positive pregnancy test was very surreal, it was not a big surprise. That doesn't mean I want to get smarmy and know-it-all, but it does help me feel at least capable of sharing what a blessing it has been to me personally and in my marriage to learn and use this approach to family planning for the last two and half years. The story gets a little long though, so I am dividing it into three parts. I hope you enjoy!

Matt and I waited until my first trimester was almost over before we made the news of our pregnancy public. However, we didn't keep it an absolute secret, and I wrote out my thoughts at the time with our reasons for telling some people on the very early side. Here they are!
I am writing this on June 5th, in my fifth week of my first pregnancy. While it is not yet public knowledge, there are many people who know what has happened, and I know that this is not the norm. So I want to write our reasons for sharing with so many people, unconventionally early, the exciting news that we’re expecting.
