Movember

Movember

Movember was on my mind today since I saw this comic earlier in the morning, so I was on the ball to capture this picture at lunch time.. You might think that Torre is too young to participate in Movember, but in fact he has inherited a great passion for prostate health awareness, as well as the colour orange from his grandfather. Today, with the help of some carrot soup, he combined these passions.

Here are some fast facts from Movember Canada:

•    Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men.
•    The incidence rates are nearly double in African Canadian men
•    1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer during his lifetime and 1 in 28 will die of it.
•    If detected and treated early, there is a 95 percent survival rate associated with prostate cancer.

Whether you can grow a moustache or not, I hope you will help spread the word this month about the importance of early detection in fighting prostate cancer! And if you have a prostate, show it some love by eating more lycopene this month – tomatoes, watermelon and red grapefruit are all good sources 🙂

  1. Watermelon and red grapefruit too, eh? I only knew about tomatoes for sure… I wonder what the odds are of getting my man to consume either of those? :S Although, I just realized now that there are probably supplements roo, aren’t there? I should look into that. Thanks for posting about this important issue.
